Hi there,

I purchased an EPSON L120 sublimation printer and I am in desperate need of assistance. I am using a MacBook Air. My black ink is printing brown and I have tried many options:

I have done the following:

- Uninstalled the driver and re-installed it

- I have downloaded ICC profiles and used those and option

- I have tried MS word, Affinity, Photoshop and the outcome is the same.

The black is printing brown and I have tried the following as well:

- Printed from another windows PC - same result

- Pressed from another press - same result

- Asked someone to print for me - same result.

How and what do you recommend I do? I am seriously desperate. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

Martine

What press settings are you using?

If, as you say, someone else has tried printing your design, on their system, with their printer and inks, and the result is the same, then the problem has to be occurring during pressing, or there's a problem with your design.

In Photoshop, or whatever you use, pick the black in your image with the eyedropper abd look at the exact RGB values. Also, make sure your document is set to RGB.

Are you sure you are using the icc profile correctly and also turning off color correction in the printer driver?
If you do not turn it off the icc profile will not work.

Did the person who printed it for you use the profile or not?

If you want post it on here and I or someone else can look at the file and possibly print/press it and see what we can tell you.

If someone else printed from your file with there sub ink printer and got the same results it has to be your file is not correct.
Try anothe r file with black in it to see the difference.

Maybe we could help you if you send us some test.

Or just try to download this test file. Print it on your printer and download it here on forum.

We do have a lot of experience with various printers, various inkjet ink printed with this particular test sample.

Here is how it should look like printed with the best and suitable sublimation ink for that particular printer

What a can of worms!!

You say printing - that is the image on the transfer paper.

Do you really mean the final image that's transferred to your substrate?

If you take some of the black ink out of your cartridge, you will see that it is actually a dark brown. It is definitely not black.

Why not do a black test? Print with all sorts of possibilities for black. Doesn't matter which machine or software you are using. Just be consistent. Heat press them all at once on one piece of substrate side by side, each labeled with the color values that you used. This way you eliminate all variables other than the color value.

You will see a world of difference between RGB 0-0-0 and CMYK 0-0-0-100. Also try CMYK 40-0-0-100. Include CMYK 0-0-0-100 converted in your graphics program to RGB. It will be something like 30-31-30.

The various selections when heat pressed to a substrate will all be some sort of black. However, if they all come out brown, it's because you've fried the crap out of them. Too much heat, too long. If they turn out green, not enough heat, too short a time.

And if you leave a black sublimation decorated item out in the sun long enough, it will turn brown.
