Hi all,

I would like your thoughts on the following (in regards to a white tee) – I was talking to an Epson DTG Sales rep and he claims that DTG printing creates more vibrant images because the ink sits on top of the white T-shirt and because cotton by nature less opaque the image and detail stands out more.

I have seen both dye sub and DTG prints but never the same design so I can’t tell if the above is true – does anyone think they know?

With any discussion like this there are variables such as fabric that will make a difference. For me in situations like this it is all about the person doing the work. I have seen some horrible colors from "experienced" dye sub shops in which a DTG shirt would excel above. If you do your best to eliminate the variables and put a top DTG shop against a top dye sub shop the colors will probably be pretty close. What is different is dye sub will hold the colors indefinitely which in many cases is not a factor.

We do both DTG and Sublimation. Without pretreatment on white shirts the ink is absorbed into the shirt. With treatment it does remain on the surface which makes it more vibrant.

Either way it doesn't matter because we would never sublimate a cotton shirt (or a dark color) and never print DTG on a 100% poly shirt.
