Dull Reds

967 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  mgparrish
Trying to print using Coastal Image right paper on several blanks(ie: flip flops, bracelets ( metal) etc), using cobra inks, and a brother printer! I am using photoshop cs5 with sRGB settings and a calibrated monitor. Profiles have been installed. The reds and blacks on the flip flops, mouse pads are dull and do not pop! On the metal items the reds come out more of a pink color! Any help would be appreciated!

Try Adobe RGB 1998 instead of sRGB as long as you are talking about your workspace, you should be selecting the sublimation ICC profile you installed for printing.
Is the printer ICC profile you are using specific to your unique printer, ink brand, and transfer paper, and are you printing with the same media and print quality settings in the print driver that it was created for?
Since it was brought up. People suggest to use RGB 1998. However ICC makers say to disable color management when sublimating items you send them to make the ICCs properly. When they make them, should one stick with no color management since that's what the ICC is for anyway?
NO!
You use no colour management of any kind to print the test charts, to get an accurate measurement of what the printer/inks are doing without any adjustment, ideally using the Adobe Color Printer utility which has no options for colour management for this purpose.
Once you are using the created ICC, you need to keep all colour management off in the printer driver, and keep the print quality and media settings the same.
In Photoshop, you should use Adobe RGB 1998 as your workspace, and for printing set it to Photoshop manages colours, and select the new ICC you've had made.

Adding to your point, the latest version(s) of Photoshop you should definitely use the Adobe utility to print a chart without correction, that's why they made is as people were complaining that do profiling once they took out the means of truly turning all color management off in PS, starting at CS5.

For everyone's reference the link is here for the utility and some info.
