What do you think?
It is 6 inks support Epson Clara HD Inks
IT IS SO FAST!!! 8 PPM ISO
FASTER THAN Epson 1500W
It cost almost the same, 250 Euro.
Are there RIP support?

What is it DIY SoftwareRIP?

I never had a 6 inks printer, someone can help?
But I am thinking...
Is possible to print a photo using only 3 colors (CMYK) by the printer settings supporting by original software driver?
If yes, I could print on white/light T-shirts with Textile Inks, like Firebird inks, and leaving the Light Magenta and Light Cyano empty.

And if I want print on black T-shirts I could make with Photoshop (GIMP or ImageMagick)
- a black/white bitmap of design to print (high contrast=100% color pixel began Black)
- change color of black to Light Magenta
- put pre-treatment liquid into Light magenta carts
- print it on t-shirt
- press it

- change color of black to Light Cyano
- put white ink into Light Cyano carts
- print it on the same t-shirt

- Print original design in CMYK mode on the same t-shirt

- Cure it (Press)

DIY Softwarerip, means, I made it myself, not from scratch but from gutenprint linux, I ported the codes to windows32 codes, very frustrating job but it paid of.
Yes you can swap cartridge to print in between for black/dark color t-shirt but it is not efficient.
Which one is faster the epson XP-950 or the epson workforce series?

Workforse series in crap for DTG the whole construction is too weak + the inconvienience of having the PF motor beeing used to operate the capping station pump.
XP-950 speed is almost the same of WF-7015 for color printing (8ppm), and half for monocrome.
But if you want digital print on Tshirts I think that you print in color mode.
Smalzstein says that 7015 is crappy.,
I say that 7015 is 4 carts and office printer instead XP-950 is 6 carts and photografic printer
So I think that the XP-950 is the best choice.

Speed details:

Epson 1430/1500W (6 inks) is so slow! ISO Speed is 2.8 ppm

Specifications - Epson WorkForce WF-7015 - Epson
Printing Speed ISO/IEC 24734 15 Pages/min Monochrome, 8.2 Pages/min Color
Printing Speed 34 Pages/min Monochrome (plain paper 75 g/m²)
Printing Resolution 5,760 x 1,440 dpi
Color CMY+K

Specifications - Expression Photo XP-950 - Epson
Printing Speed ISO/IEC 24734 8.5 Pages/min Monochrome, 8 Pages/min Color
Printing Speed 11 Seconds per 10 x 15 cm photo (Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper), 28 Pages/min Color (plain paper 75 g/m²), 28 Pages/min Monochrome (plain paper 75 g/m²)
Colours Light Magenta, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, Cyan, Black

Sorry, I don't know how Gutenprint work, but I read that there aren't driver for Epson Expression printers

Gutenprint Supported Printers

In everyway I don't need a RIP I want use Photoshop and official epson drivers
Maybe a plug in for photoshop is good for automate functions. Like this photoGP:

Gutenprint & CUPS for Windows

I only need to know this:
Is possible to print a photo using only 3 colors (CMYK) by the printer settings supporting by original software driver?
Someone that have 6 inks epson printer like 1500W can post a screenshot of printer settings pages

Without a RIP you will not have control of whatever channel which ink is fireing.

No you cannot control individual ink channels without a RIP. You could conceivably color correct your way to only 4 channels but what is the point? Through the default drivers, the print is converted to the appropriate channels as the printer sees it not as you tell it. So if you print a green for example, the driver/printer determines what mixture of cyan/light cyan/ and yellow is needed to get the shade you want.

I'm not sure about the huge emphasis on speed. You are only going to be as fast as you can load a shirt. Unless you are planning on doing 100's of shirts per day, what is a couple of extra minutes per shirt? Also keep in mind that most stated speeds are not at the highest quality. While you can compare one to another to get a relative idea, the final print speed of a full color full page high res print is not going to be as stated in the specs.

I generally disagree with Smalzstein's point about the WF series. While there are other negatives, having the PF roller drive the pump is actually an advantage to me. Just cut the pump off the capping station and there you go. I do agree that the frame is weak but by using the existing plastic casing, it makes for a pretty solid platform, just requires some cutting. For a cheap printer, the WF is a great choice and it is very cheap compared to some others. It is also a very simple printer with fewer sensors and motors to deal with. It all depends on what you want to do with it in the end. It is possible that the print quality will not be quite as good as some of the pro printers but when printing to cloth, the print quality is only so good anyway. I can't see where the loss of quality would even be that noticeable except in a hard surface print job.

I am defending the WF because I am currently building one. Some of these questions will be answered soon enough for me.

Yes I checked gutenprint supported printers also but you can test every supported printer in the gutenprint maybe there is one compatible with epson XP series (the same handshake command) and you can use that printer commands to print with gutenprint or create a new printer in gutenprint.

Is possible make a custom color profile to tell to printer driver what inks use?

On this link i read this:

Serious color gurus will be pleased by Epson's support for ICC color profiles. On the Mac, if you have a custom profile made for the 1280, it'd just appear in the pulldown labeled "Profile" above. On the PC, there are actually two separate options here, one for simply selecting the ubiquitous (and awful) sRGB color space, the other for selecting ICM color profiles the name for ICC profiles under Windows.

No you will need softwarerip to tell epson printer to print using which channel for each color ink. ICC profiles only tell the softwarerip or epson driver how to mix each channel to make the printed result the same or almost the same with your monitor color.

I found a good XP-950 review with screenshots of printer settings

Epson Expression Photo XP-950 - Photo Review

However, the XP-950 lacks the ICM (Image Colour Management) controls provided in the Artisan 1430's driver and, instead, will only let you check a box that switches ICM off. (This is the normal setting to use when you want editing software, such as Photoshop, to control output colours.)

Leaving the ICM box unchecked uses the colour matching system in the computer's operating system to automatically match the colours in the printout with the colours displayed on the screen. Epson augments this with two additional Colour Management options: Colour Controls and PhotoEnhance.

The Colour Controls setting uses colour matching and image-enhancement methods provided by the printer driver. The PhotoEnhance setting (shown below) lets users select from five Scene Correction options, provided in a drop-down menu, which cover typical subject types. Auto Correct is included, along with Sepia and Grey (monochrome).

The guten print driver is so old! The similar Epson 1400 or 1500W is not supported too. If I found handshake, what steps needs more to print with CMYK carts, or with a single ink?
Do you have a XP-950 printer? Do you plan to buy it?

Epson photo 1400 is supported by gutenprint, you can use 1400 setting for epson 1500W I believed.
I see better on gutenprint support page, and I found this printer support

Epson Stylus Photo 1400 escp2-1400 Epson-Stylus_Photo_1400
Epson Stylus Photo 1410 escp2-1410 Epson-Stylus_Photo_1410

Someone test it on Epson 1430/1500W?
Someone can test gutenprint on XP-950?

If it works, how can print CMYK with XP-950?
Can I print with only with Light Magenta or Light Ciano (for white underbase and pretreatment)

Thank you

I found this:
GutenRIP™ | Free Home & Education software downloads at SourceForge.net

The mentioned "3 color composite" means to print in CMYK without use of Light Magenta and Light Ciano?
