I've seen a lot of adidas merch at my local skateshop. A lot of their graphics are high-density plastisol transfers, and others are direct screen prints. The screen prints are really, really, well done. They are using screens with a very deep stencil to allow the maximum amount of ink to lay down on the shirt, giving you that rubbery, stretchy feel of the print, and you can usually see the impression of the screen mesh in the ink.

Nike don't use transfers. not sure about Adidas but I would highly doubt it. There is a member here haven't seen in a long time that worked for a shop printing Nike. The thick logo on them is printed with 3-4 screens. Starting with a 50-100 micron screen maybe a 100-156 mesh and then progressively gets higher mesh. The edges are sharp unlike the Adidas image so I'm guessing that this was a single HD screen print of maybe 50 micron stencil as it doesn't appear real thick but hard to tell from a pic.
