I am in the process of building my first exposure unit.

Do I need a black blanket for my exposure unit? Is the "Black" blanket just intended to block the light?

I am thinking of using this material:
Dura-Max

and then just backing it with black fabric of some kind. Or maybe putting a filler on the back of the screen to protect from reflected light and then building a cover over the top to retain the light.
I use this stuff for vacuum veneering and it works great. Very tuff and very cost effective.

Since I am new to screen printing and have never used an exposure unit I am not sure if I am missing something with my idea.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
NR

Depends on the unit you are trying to build, are you going to have a vacuum? If so then you need so sort of rubber sheet, like wetsuit material so it will stretch and conform to the screen. This keeps the screen flat and tight to the art and the art flat and tight to the glass so no light seeps in the edges between the art and the screen. If you arent using a vacuum then cloth will do but you should find something with a little weight to it to lay on the screen to keep the art pressed firmly to it.
