DIY Preregistration Jig

Here is what I've been working on the past couple of hours. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but i'm pretty sure it will work perfectly. I have a registration mark template I printed out and used red on the marks so it will be easier to tell if I'm off. For now I plan to just use double sided tape to secure the printed template onto the jig. If anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them. For the stops I used small standoffs (18x25mm $5.50) from an online sign supply store. They work great. Taller ones won't let your screen lift after clamping it down. The board is a sheet of 24x48 (cut to 24x36) dry erase board from home depot ($9.95). Probably a total of $25 total in the jig. On the bottom I used the 3 2x2 pressure treated stakes ($.99 each) because I couldn't find any 2x2x8 boards that were straight. These were perfectly straight. Let me know what you think.

Update: I got a chance to test it out today on a two color job. It worked absolutely PERFECT.didnt have to adjust it on press at all. There were some pretty tight parameters too.

Very cool. I've been looking to do something like this myself!
As long as this first print wasnt a fluke, this thing is going to save me loads of prepress time.

What type of clamp is that? I've been meaning to make something similar to the Vastex pre-registration stand, but this seems faster and easier. Thanks.
You mean the one on my platen?

Yes, the one holding your Preregistration rig. Is that bracket specifically for your press? In that case, If I made something similar I would just use a bracket that is made for my press, correct? thanks
Yes....its for my vastex. I only measured to center the pallet after that I screwed the 2x2s to the board with the pallet on so it would be nice amd snug. It has no play in it.

Cool, thanks.
Hey all, know this is an old thread... so I was building this and couldn't wrap my head around how to get the transparencies onto the screen with this build...

If this was detached from the press and in the screen room... I'd place my guide stencil on the jig and tape it down...

The next step would be to take the film for the color I want to burn and line it up..... would I just use some double stick tape?

This seems to be my hang up... any help would be great.
Thanks!!
