Getting ready to make some platens to be able to go at least 19 inches wide. I have always made the other platens myself. I am buying the 23x31 screens this week. My question is.... what size does my platen need to be to get the most use out of the 23x31 screens? Should I just go 21 wide and 24 long? What is in the industry that others use? I looked on a few sites and most say 20 wide and 23 long, but since I am making them myself I was thinking of going longer. Should I have two platen brackets to help eliminate "flex" or do I put a flat piece of metal along the sides of it to eliminate the "flex" of the wood because it is so long? Or, do I just not worry about that issue? Hep me out if you can.

How big is you inkjet printer?
If you can not print wider that 13 or 17", why making wider palets?
Also, unless you are to print all-over only, you will not be able to put Small size shirts on too big of the pallets.

Standard palets are 22x16 for Auto presses. On my manual I have 15x22 and that is plenty big.
You might want to go to 17-18" wide, but I would not suggest to go wider.

Why DYI?

I agree with Dennis. Long is very often a benifit and can't really hurt you. Too wide can often be a problem when printing small sizes and ladies fashion cut shirts. I've actually trimmed a bunch of my plattens down abit narrower because it seems like everyone is ordering the tighter fitting fashion cut shirts lately.

Good luck,
Nick
