Ok so sorry for the extreme naivety but could some please explain how distributors work? Is this where company's purchase blank t-shirts from to print on?

Could be....but typically a distributor is a business that buys from various manufacturers at a bulk rate then sells or distributes the items at what is considered wholesale or retail in much small quantity then they originally purchased from the manufacture.
