Hello, I have just bought a pre treating machine
Which states I should use distilled water
Can I use deionized water instead?
Reason being a shop on my street sells deionized water, where as I would have to order online for distilled water.
Any help appreciated

If it specifically says 'distilled water' then use that. Deionised water is corrosive and should not be used if distilled water is specified.

Not to mention the possible voiding of any warranties by using water other than stated.

Using something other than distilled water can cause your pretreatment to stain. Deionized water still has additives in it for taste.

De-ionized water is simply low quality (cheaper to make) distilled water.
Distilled water is the best option.

Most good drug stores or medical supply stores should sell it. If not try at an aquarium store.


Also the water from a condensing tumble drier is distilled water.

I'd say give it a go with de-ionised water... if it does not leave stains on a black shirt then you are OK.


The pre-treating machine will not be damaged. The distilled water is for avoiding stains.



If you really need distilled water, go to a car battery shop. It will be cheaper than the drug store.

Thank you I'll stick with using distilled water then, it's my local car shop that is selling the deionised water so that was the easiest option, I look at some of your suggestions on where to purchase distilled. Again thank you

Any supermarket or drug store like CVS or Walgreens sells distilled water for about $1 a gallon.
