Discoloration around prints

We have a discoloration issue with our DTG printer (Texjet Plus). We have printed a white motif on a charcoal colored hoodie made of 100% cotton.

After fixing the print under the heat press there are orange lines around the white print, like residues, apparently the garment changed colours there. It is the first time we have seen this problem with our Texjet.

I have seen this before when we had a company print a moss green sample shirt (also 100% cotton) for us with the Epson SureColor SC-2000. There was also an orange discoloration all around the print, approx. 0,5 mm wide. It looked as though the ink had leaked and changed the colour of the shirt. I thought this might be a problem of the Epson, but now our Texjet has done it, too.

Can anybody help?

Are you sure it's 100% cotton? This looks like some dye migration we sometimes see on poly blends.

Hi Marc,

yeah, based on the manufacturer's declaration it's both supposed to be 100% organic cotton. I read a little about dye migration in the forum, but it said that it shouldn't happen with pure cotton so I'm wondering whether there is another explanation...
You might have to put a little more preteat down.

I have experienced this phenomenon on several colors and brands. Asphault/Charcoal colored shirts seem to do it the worst. I have been able to help cut back on the issue by hovering the heat press for 1 minute before starting the actually curing cycle.

That`s an interesting point. My guess is that it might have something to do with moisture because after printing two layers of white ink there was a dark outline around the print as if water had leaked from the ink into the garment.

The orange discoloration is pretty much where the dark area was before pressing.
