I'm using Virus Water-based Discharge white, it requires 16% of activator to be mixed in with the ink to get it going, however the only stockist that sells this in the UK stupidly sells it in KG not litres etc. so measuring out 16% of 1kg of liquid is pretty hard without an empty tub of the stuff to set the scales to 0.

Either way the consistency is very similar to water, so i figured 1kg = 1litre, so i mixed in 160ml of the activator into 1kg of ink.

My prints are very mis-matching (i'm putting this down to me poorly mixing in the activator, some prints are blotchy but generally achieving the discharge effect, others are rough and not dying the fabric at all, pretty much a normal white print but rough to the touch and missing parts of the image)

Basically, i was wondering if anyone could indicate what a discharge print would look like with too little activator and what a print would look like with too much activator? That way i can gauge what i'm doing wrong and which side of the scale im tipping towards when adding my activator in. Thanks, any help is appreciated!

Yeah, it eventually started working, and since then i've gone through 2 more tubs. 16% of whatever weight of ink is what you need, so 160grams per kg of ink, where as i understood it as 16% of the activator... very silly mistake.

But this stuff will discharge ANY t-shirt i've tried it on, without messing with the activator balance. It's even come out pretty decent on some poly-blends & forest green, which was a surprise!

But yeah, if i ever meet a challenge (a royal blue, cardinal red t-shirt) i'll try a bit more of the activator if it doesn't work, like you say.
