The ultra cotton shirts used to be great. Now they are pretty flemsey compared to the older ultra cotton shirts I have. The shirts don't seem to fit right anymore as well. Are there any shirts on todays market that fit similar to an early to mid 2000s gildan ultra cotton shirt?

I can't promise that it is what you want, but the Hanes 5180 Beefy-T is 6.1 oz and the same type of boxy cut. It is, however, ringspun so costs more than the Gildan. The fit changed a bit when these got outsourced out of the USA (over 20 years ago, maybe?), but probably still the best shirt of this style. I use the Gildan 2000 as backup and for color/size combinations not available in the 5180.
