different programs / versions

I'm a newbie, it's obvious by my question that I'm about to ask :). Other than being new versions, what is the difference between Corel Draw 12 and x5 and all the other corel programs out there?

I recently jumped into doing Rhinestone design, vinyl and sublimation, all of which will work better with corel draw, but what program do I need to get.

TIA

Trixie

Corel X5 is the most current version of Corel (X6 will be out soon) this version comes on a DVD so you would need a computer with a DVD drive to load the program. You might still be able to get x4 (14) for less than the current version...save some money that way.
I like a lot of others on the forum have stayed with x4 do to some issue with X5. The real question is if you will be sending designs to a cutter you will need a full version of the Graphics Suite, some of the lessor copies do not have the files needed to send designs to a cutter. Also you need to consider the rhinestone package you are looking at and what version of Corel and Windows it work with.
Hope this helps some. If you have more questions feel free to ask.

Ok, showing my ignorance here, is x5 a full version? I just purchased the DAS Rhinestone system, and GCC Puma 24" cutter. It arrived yesterday and I'm still reading thru the instruction manual :(

thanks so much for your quick reply. :)
CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 would be a full version... The box will say full version. If you have never had Corel before you will need to make sure you get a full version and not an upgrade. If you have an older version of Corel than you could get an upgrade....LOL
There are academic versions, educational versions and I think you can get Draw by itself, these will not have all the filters and files needed to work with your program.

Ok, so I don't need the 12?! Whew!
I did purchase a full version x5, but then I was questioning if I bought the wrong thing. I'm a hands on person, and would do so much better if I had someone close by to show me how to do all this stuff LOL!!
I wouldn't mind showing you but the drive from Michigan to Atlanta is a little long....LOL
Again feel free to ask questions... you will find the members of the forum are always willing to help. There are also tons of videos online.

Thank you so much...the weather is rather nice down here :) sure you don't need a vacation? LOL... Again, I appreciate your helpful information and quick replies.

just out of curiousity, what is corel draw 12?
Trixie get comfortable with das before tackling Corel. You don' need Corel to produce beautiful designs. I have had das for a year and just now including corel

Thanks!!! I will be installing it tonight and attempting my first rhinestone template. I know with everything I will be doing, I will eventually need corel draw.

It's suppose to get up into the 80's here :)

age has nothing to do with it, I can't remember yesterday and I REFUSE to admit that I'm getting old :) I'm 29 with several years experience LOL...

I will take the mid 60's here in Michigan...in March...when it is still winter...and should only be in the low 30's....

29...heck try 25 28 that is my standard answer when someone asks my age any more...stated doing this at 20 10. My husband noticed I am getting a few grays hairs...I told him it was just the blond starting to come in...LOL :D
Have fun with all the new toys, hope you post photos of your first designs.

I dye my hair blonde for a few reasons, 1 - you can't tell whats gray and whats blonde. 2 - I have an excuse when I do something stupid :)

My younger kids will say I'm 29....but my teenager thinks it's funny to ask her friends how old they think I am, and when they say 30 something, she says NOPE, she's 42! I keep telling her that's not a fun game ! LOL.

I will definately post pics, I'm doing 2 shirts for this weekend for my brothers wedding. One is a shirt for the bride, per her request, it will say in rhinestones "Evil Stepmother" and his is a transfer that I ordered from Transfer Express " Under NEW Management, 2012"

Thanks again for the help and the warm welcome, it's been great talking to you :)
Ann,

CW has given you sage advice. You will LOVE CorelDRAW and there are TONS of free video tutorials available on Youtube and the Internet. And there is a CorelDRAW specific sub-forum here as well as a Rhinestone section.

And you both can nix all that "old" noise.

I'm older than you both together and I look forward to tomorrow 'cause I get better everyday!:D

I would agree with Sally. Get to terms with DAS before getting into trying to learn Corel. Use the tutorials on the DAS owners site and sign up for the webinars. Everyone has to walk before they can run!

Thanks! I'm definately taking it one step at a time, I was even reading the instruction manual before installing the software like it said to do. And while reading it, there were several reference to corel draw and it needed to be full version. So I was curious as to if what I had purchased was what I needed. I logged into their site today and requested permission for the owners area, which I have received. I will be watching those tutorials this evening, I can't wait...
