Designers! imac 20"/24" opinions

I'm in the market for a new mac. I've been looking at the 20" and 24" imacs with upgraded memory and graphics card. Any opinions, positive, negative, or otherwise with regards to this would be splendid. Opinions on any other possible upgrade options,or even comments on the competitiveness of the Mac Pro tower, are welcome as well.

This will be used for T-shirts, with PS and Illy. Also will be used for design of larger things such as restaraunt signs, snowboards, etc.:)

I would go with the 24". Just because it's bigger. The Mac Pro would have better upgradability and more power but it will cost more.

My next desktop will be a Mac Pro. I want all the power I can get.

Any opinion on the optional hard drive or processor upgrades?
If your talking about the iMac I would not upgrade the processor but the memory. 2 GB instead of just one will help alot with those large photoshop files. The slight difference in processor speed would not really be noticable.

The 250GB hard drive would be fine. You always can get external firewire drives if you need more storage later on.

It depends on your budget as well. You could go with the 20" upgrade the memory and the hard drive and it would be a little cheaper then the lowest 24" price.

Thanks Dave. I was thinking along those lines, and you're giving me some confidence in my thoughts. As for the 20", I'm typing from one right now, and I find that for graphics it's a bit cluttered. After taking the 24" for a spin through PS in the Apple store the other day, I am really spoiled. Money certainly IS an issue, but I may have to suck it up and get that beautiful screen.

If you go for the tower, what size display would you get? The 23" looks nice...then it jumps way up to 30" right? For me that would go beyond practical and into the realm of extravagant, although....;)

More opinions are still welcome...
Photoshop can benefit performance-wise from an additional hard drive set as a scratch disk. And having a separate drive for old art is nice... and backup.
If I got what I really wanted, I would get a couple 30". The 23" would be fine though. For most people the 30" would be overkill.

Jimiyo has a point. But if you go with the iMac you can only have one hard drive in it. So either way you'd need to go external.
just ordered me 2 24" W/S Dell Monitors for my personal computer. not a mac but a pc w/ nvidia 7950 gt 512mb. might upgrade to a sli set up in the future. can't wait!!

if you don't mind spending the money go with the 24" especially something with really nice contrast ratio. i have dual 19" for work right now and I could def. use something a lot bigger for sure.
