I need some advise on how to print the attached design.

On this design, they want the volleyball to wrap around to the back side of the shirt. My concern is the seam. My guess is that if you screen print or use transfers the design is going to crack along the seam once the shirt is folded. On dtg the seam concens me about printing over it and I think it will crack once the shirt is folded.

My thought is that dye sublimation is the best way to go. Has anyone printed like this with their dtg machine and what were the results? Also any other thoughts/ideas on printing this? They do not want tube tees.

Thanks
Larry

because the name extends up past the armpit, you will need to do this in 2 prints. one print would be the ball, and the 2nd print would be the name/date. advise the customer that the size of the design will look different as the shirts go from small to 2X, and that the spacing and placement will be based off of the bottom hem.

it will be a pain, but it can be done. i would prepress the shirt to get it flat. the seam shouldn't be an issue. you can print in uni-directional mode if it's really high, but bi-directional will probably work. as for the print itself, you shouldn't have any issues. i've printed on seams many times.

it wasn't a problem on the shirts that i did. if there is white ink, then it may be a tad rough, but any print method would be over a seam, and it won't be readily visible even if there is a small variation. if it's just cmyk, then there shouldn't be any noticeable problem. i would do a sample, though, and get prior approval.

You can screen print pretty well over seams if you prepare a seam trench of the correct height on your platen.

Not really a big issue for black on white, either.

Gildan shirts are tubular in the adult sizes. Can't remember about kids.....
