Hi - I am relatively new here.. been a lurking member for a bit but have a question.

Right now I do mostly embroidered items, but have a heat press and want to experiment.

How do you mark the position of your design for a heat transfer shirt. When I do embroidery I use a sewing water soluble pen to mark where I want my design. I was afraid to use this for heat transfer as I did not want the pen mark to be burned into the shirt. Any suggestions would be great

I use that same type of disappearing ink pen for heat pressing with no problems. I also use tailors chalk. The blue chalk is good for dark garments.

As for tape, if needed, I use the Johnson & Johnson paper medical tape. Fold one end under to create a little tab to grab onto for removing it.

I also press shirts longways for a center crease, and I have a wide ruler with a piece of masking tape going across it 3" from the bottom so that I can quickly measure 3" from the collar seam. I usually pinch the top of my transfer at the center so that I can quickly lay that crease on top of the shirt crease.

Also it just takes some time. My girlfriend printed 100 white shirts with black ink and once we where done we picked a couple out and lined em up. Held them up to some light and they where in almost the same exact spot. So we checked a bunch more, Not in the order she printed them, like shirt #2 and shirt # 56 and again they where in almost the same spot. She has a great eye for it, and after a couple 1000 shirts over the last couple years, it just gets better.

Good luck
