Hi

I've been silkscreen printing through a third party for a number of years and I have never really settled on the exact placement of a design printed (when on front of shirt)

By this I mean, for an A4 print (portrait) I usually print 5cms from the bottom of the neckline. Recently I have started printing 7cms for 2XL and up (because the design sits too high on big guys)

My question: Is there a standard measurement for printing designs on the front of the shirt for

a) portraint
b) landscape
c) letterbox designs (font)

or is it a matter of preference?

Cheers

In my opinion, this is a matter of preference,

What I do
The more height in the design the more close to bottom of the neckline.

Women always closer to the collar than men.

A4 portrait I print @ 10cm (4") bottom of the neckline for men and 6cm (2.4") for women.

Thanks for this information.

I am busy printing a 20cm X 20cm design and have increased the measurements to 7cms (men) and 10cm (2XL+). I'll see how these come out, and for future portrait prints will consider 10cms.

I agree, the distance to neckline decreases for ladies prints.

Cheers!

Shot for the info!

Two fingers though, that for me is about 4cms. Some designs, perhaps, with sticky-up bits might work for me like this... My printer uses the same rule, and for my prints it was 3 fingers (5cms) but they say 4 fingers is standard... (7cms)

I prefer designs printed higher up... I hate "design in the middle of the shirt" prints... they look ordinary...
Then again, too high up and it's almost as if you're being "strangled" by the design...

Biggest thing is working on a standard for smalls through to 3XLs... and trying to keep this simple so you're not asking your printer to print seven different placement versions

hmmm... much thinking to do there is
