hi all, just getting in to this side of things for our company.

I have a question that I'm sure is so obvious that you are all going to laugh at me. but, like I said, i am completely new to this.

I'm trying to apply an image to a cotton t. I am using darkjet transfer paper with the sort of flat matte finish one side, a shiny side that is adhering the paper to the backing that has all of the blue measurement reference lines on it. Anyhow, after 1 attempt, I realized that I was doing it wrong because the really shiny was facing out on the shirt, and you could tell that transfer was on the other side. I thought you just printed it and laid it flat, pressed it, then peeled off the backing, but what i get when i do that is the super shiny side is face up, the art side is stuck to the shirt.

Then I assumed you must peel of the backing first, that way the flat side (the side that feels more like a shirt) is face out and the adhesive side is down. Well, I just tried a practice press and now the transfer paper is stuck to the press
I am doing 350 degrees for 30 seconds.

what ridiculously simple thing am i unable to wrap my brain around?

Use a silicone sheet or parchment paper (I think this will work, too) between the transfer and the heat press's upper plate. You can buy parchment paper in the aluminum foil section of your supermarket; it's what bakers use to keep products from sticking to cookie sheets. More than a few of us have made that bonehead mistake, but only a few of us will admit to it!

Without the name of the paper, I would not hazzard a guess, but I will any way. I believe you would print on the side opposite the side with the grid. Having said that I have been in this biz for 17 years and I have not found an inkjet transfer for darks that I would consider selling. Next lesson always put Teflon sheet or parchment paper between the transfer and the top of the press.

Its Darkjet by enduratex. I'm wondering if I'm not letting it stay on long enough AND also it's not hot enough.

What are the other options than for dark colored shirts? Garment vinyl?

The transfer paper that I use for darks, you don't "mirror the image" and you peel the backing off before placing it on the shirt. I cover mine with Teflon sheet. I've never tried the brand that you are using, so I don't know if that is the problem or not.
