He is ugly but so efficient

Using leverage and the row of nails spread the tension evenly and does not tear as long as the nails are in a row that spans the complete distance of the frame

I use a quick drying water proof / heat resistant epoxy glue

gorilla glue will do, any glue that will bond and be at least water resistant should do the job.

I have reclaimed the screens many times and no problem, I suppose you could glue them and then staple them as a precaution to coming lose once they stretched.

Forgot to add stretch while the mesh is wet since it has more stretch then, once dry it goes even tighter

glue 2 sides then once dry stretch the unglued short side and then the unglued long side

Still going strong
on a side note, after going through all your great advice and DIY equipment........

how much does your wife 'dislike' the fact that you took up a whole room of your home?

just asking because i was going to try and get my 'print shop' between the basement, my office and the garage but i already have a music room and a painting/sewing studio.

one more room i might be sleeping in the truck.

lol it was not that difficult we have a one year old so I explained that instead of me going to rent someplace away from home, with me working at home means I can help out :)

These are what I want to use next and will allow a multi purpose room :)

I'd increase the rows of nails to 2 or 3. It would be great if you can get smaller and pointed nails like the "black" ones used in shoes. Or use a clamping system instead of nails to be able to be able to apply more stretching pressure.

What I was looking for is the row of nails used to install carpets (nail strips) but could not find them, so put this together as a test but it worked so well I have left it :)

I thought the mesh would rip but as long as the tension is even it held, yes smaller (thinner) nails would be a better option and also using more nails tighter together in a true line, but i was impatient and am not a carpenter, infact before I started screen printing I only had a star screw driver as my only tool.

Now I have a whole kit and stuff :), only downside is wife now expects me to fix stuff

sir, what emulsion are you using?.. i had Tulco Emulsion but during washing it quickly tear off even on light pressure washing..
I use diazo activated water based emulsion it is repackaged so have no idea who the supplier is, but I have never had a problem of the stencil breaking down.

If you using water based emulsion you cannot use plastisol inks since it will break down and the same for water based inks on plastisol emulsions

I would look to ensure your ink and emulsion is compatible and if you talking about stencil washing out on exposure then your exposure time is to short

Sorry yes your exposure setup and timing is wrong if it is washing out so easy, try expose for longer and what kind of exposure unit are you using there are many posts here on exposure units etc.

I use a 500w halogen spotlight with the glass cover removed to expose if i am doing short runs I coat t-shirt side of the screen once and leave to dry and expose for 7:40 sec works for me.

Trail and error google exposure step setup to get the right times for your unit

Great DIY buddy! can you show step by step of stretching the mesh
Part 1

Ok here is a tutorial I made for a facebook group 3 months ago

1. make frame - this is a baby frame i will burn my care labels on it

2. Frame made and mesh ready

3. I glue the long side and then stick the one side of mesh down

4. Do the same to the short side - so 2 sides mesh stuck down.

5. All ready to stretch
