You will need to make two copies of the text and crop both but in different directions. There are a lot of tutorials and videos around to show you how do do most anything Corel Draw is capable of. Good luck.

If using Corel Draw, draw a line through the text where you want it cut. Take the pick tool and drag to select everything or pick the line first then while holding "Shift" pick the text so that both are selected (if you pick the text first and then the line, the line gets cut). Once both are selected as indicated click the "Trim" function. Delete the line and you should have text that is split without creating two copies and cropping.

When I do that it doesnt work till I go to Break curves apart.
Is that necessary or am I doing something wrong.

That is correct. You do have to break curve apart. I forget to include that step. Once you break it apart just group or weld the top half of letters together and likewise for the bottom.
