Hi,

I am new to T-Shirt making and am currently on the look out for a cutter for vinyl and heat transfer papers.

I have been looking at the Silhouette Cameo but know it is limited in the sizes it will cut. Is this the best option for heat transfer papers rather than vinyl?

Would a normal plotter cutter also do heat transfer paper?

Also, I am limited in budget at the moment. I will probs after go second hand as can only go upto about £300 at the moment.

Any help will be massively appreciated.

Cheers

Danny

I have had the Silhouette SD for almost two years, which was the model before the Cameo. The SD can only cut up to 9 in, but it definitely made me some money. I use it to cut vinyl and mostly heat transfers, and yes you are limited to the sizes you can use but I just worked my way around it. You cant beat the price and it helped me save up enough to get a Craft Robo Pro which can cut up to 15 in.

Starting out, the Cameo is probably your best bet. It cuts up to 12" wide, which means you can fit A LOT of transfer vinyl or paper onto it. Not all plotters can provide print and cut capabilities. You'll want to make sure that any cutter you're looking at can read registration marks in order to allow you to cut images out of heat transfer paper (the Cameo has this option).

I've looked at the web site for the Cameo, but I am still uncertain if I can import images for cutting or an I limited to to their designs. I am looking for a small machine that will handle letter or legal sized JPSS transfers with a relatively small volume.
