Customer Support?

886 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Stefano
Hello,
A few months ago I called Corel customer service (Canada based I believe) and spoke to a rep about their products. I bought Draw X6 last week when the prices took a big dive and wanted to see if there was a free upgrade window, which was customary in the software world a while back.

I just tried calling customer support at the number listed on the web site. However, it rings the Corel store instead. I don't want to place a new order or follow up on an existing one, which are the only phone menu options. Is there no longer a voice on the other end of the line to whom you can ask questions? I suspect the entire service/support function has moved off shore. Any insights?

Corel's support lines are a paid service, unfortunately :( you have to be paying for the premium service to get free support calls. I think I could find you a number for support, but just a forewarning, they are almost certainly going to charge you if you attempt to call them about this.

Edit: This looks like the best you can get for support, and sure enough, they ask for money just for the ability to get through to them...

Kinda a scummy way to do business, but they do have a good product...you can also try to reach one of the support people on the CorelDraw forums at coreldraw.com. I have done that a few times, with moderate success.
They give you 30 days support. There is no free upgrade period. If you buy X6 that's what you get. The reason the prices took a dive is the release of X7 if they we're going to do that then the prices wouldn't have taken a dive. If you belong to the premium membership then from what I understand you get the upgrades.

The upgrade is usually a OS thing.

Maybe not free, but pretty darned close. I finally got through to someone in sales who said once I registered X6, I could upgrade to X7 for $25 if I showed proof of purchase of X6 within the past month.

At one time in the software application industry, it was a common practice to give a free upgrade within a specified period, and reduced pricing over a longer period of time.

To clarify my original post, I was NOT looking for technical support, but rather for pre sales, or customer service. Many companies still provide this - as did Corel until recently. I know you have to pay through the nose for tech support, much of which is practically useless unless you get bumped up to the 2nd or 3rd tier support techs.
