Creating an svg file for cutting with a Silhouette Cameo

630 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Waiting
I want to create some designs on a Mac to be used for cutting vinyl on a Silhouette Cameo that's controlled by a Windows PC. One of my concerns is the fonts being cut like those I choose for the designs.

After looking at options (other than tracing the designs in Silhouette Studio, which I know little about) it seems like the best would be to create the designs in Illustrator and output them as svg's with embedded fonts.

Would this work?

Also, would I create a separate file for each color in the design?

Thanks,

gary

I'm pretty sure that you can only import svg's into Silhouette DESIGNER EDITION (ie. the paid-for edition).

Doesn't matter about fonts, just make sure everything is converted to paths before exporting the svg.
Thank you for the reply, will do. Yes, the software must be upgraded to at least the Designer Edition. Looks like it has some other desireable features as well.

do all the work in Illustrator, font must be converted to outlines, export the file to dxf, open in studio and just send to cut.
Excellent! Thank you. It takes a village...
