couple questions on 2 first 2 color job

Im going to be doing my first 2 color print today and have a few questions.

1. Im using a gray ink on a black shirt, will it need an underbase, or should i give it a try without it ?

2. The large center letter is being printed with IC silver shimmer ink, will it need underbase ? (im using a 110 screen)

2. as the 2 colors dont touch, i have read that i dont need to flash between colors. My question on this when i press the mesh down while squeegeeing the second color wont it contact the first (still wet) color?

Thanks

If you do not want underbase, you would probably need to print/flash/print gray and possibly silver.
You do not need to flash in between, but if the squeegee is going over the part of the color already printed while you are printing the second color, make sure you do not stop half way, go with the squeegee over the whole printed design.
That way you will not have a crease in the gray where you start or stop your squeegee pressure.
Also, you might print a few test prints until you have build up on the back of the second screen.
Both colors can be printed with a single pass and no underbase. 110 is fine. You may want to create a little thicker stencil. With a fill stroke and a little lower squeegee angle you can get sufficient deposit. Watch the pressure and off contact so the ink lays on top and not into the shirt. You may want to flash between colors to minimize build up.
I actually ended up doing this already, and figured i post back my results. The silver shimmer and gray both seemed to give good coverage without the underbase, and just a single fill, pass stroke. The only issue i had on the first few was the the first color was getting onto the bottom of the 2nd color screen, causing a blur on the first colors outline on the next shirt. I was able to fix this by flashing in between the colors. I have read that if the colors don't touch you shouldn't need to do this but, perhaps i was doing something wrong. When you screen second color the bottom of the screen will contact the wet first color that's on the shirt, is this ok, ??, why did i end up causing a blur on the next shirt from the ink ?...Ok that enough im getting confused with all this first screen second screen stuff ( I hope this makes sense to someone)
Post a picture of it. It may help to better describe your issue.

Where did you read that you shouldn't have to flash if the colors don't touch? Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. If you're printing and you're having issue with ink picking up, flash. Inks can be modified to lessen it. With Process printing you generally don't flash between. Same with Simulated and Index.
With heavier deposits you generally do.
But there are no hard set rules. Depends on the variables of each particular job.
