Okay, as much as it hurts me to have to do it, I have come to the conclusion that I will need to purchase the Commercial Version of CorelDraw GS X8 edition and a RIP software program. Some of you have tried to help me fix my dilemma and I really appreciate all the advice.

I ended up trying the 15 day free trial version of the X8 and I still cannot print color separations from my Epson 1430 printer. I even reloaded my X5 home student version and could not do it. I used be able to do it on my old computer but I guess the new one does not have the RIP program so I cannot print color separations in all black unless I change the design to black.

My question is "what RIP program would you guys recommend?

First of all, is your art all vector, or does it also contain RGB raster images?

If it is all vector, use only Pantone colors. Then CD will separate each Pantone color to its own screen when you select separations (rather than composite).

If your art includes raster, then get SimpleSeps Raster (get the package and have SimpleSeps SmartRIP too). It is reasonably priced and does a great job.

Quality Punch will separate your designs for you. They will vectorize your designs as well as add registration marks and resize. We pay 15.00 per design and it is worth it. They are easy to work with and will send you a proof first. We get our design back within 24 hours if not sooner. We heard about them through Snappy Duds and it has saved us so much time.

You might be on to something. I really don't know if I have vector or Raster images. LOL. How can I figure out which I have?

If you drew it all in CorelDraw (NOT CorelPaint), it is vector (composed of lines and node points).

If you imported photos or clipart from .png, .bmp, .jpg, etc those are raster images (unless you just imported them to trace them as vectors then deleted the original raster image).

Everything is in CorelDraw. I never use CorelPaint. If I import a pdf, png I do autotrace and convert it to CorelDraw.

I noticed today that I was trying to print a pink grey design and the pink would print black but the grey would print grey but it was recognized as black.

You need to make sure that every color is from the Pantone color palette. No CMYK, no RGB. Both for outlines and fills. They are then treated as "Spot Colors."

I did notice that I dont have a color palette of pantone colors on this new X8 program. I am going to set up a pantone color palette and see what happens. I will do that as soon as I get home. I am working the graveyard shift so it cannot be done till the morning.

THAT WAS IT!!! Now I can print all the colors in black without doing anything but hit print. I just wish CorelDraw tech support could have told me this from the beginning. I have the X5 version. I am debating on either getting the X8 commercial version or just keeping the X5 version. With the X5 program I cannot see any of the menu items at the top unless I place the cursor over them. I have the X8 home student version but I cannot print any colors in all black with it. It's either the X5 home student version upgrade to the X8 commercial version.

I asked Corel Support about my print separation problem with the Home & Student edition. This was their reply. Now that I know this, I am thinking about just getting the Graphics Suite 2018 update and move on.

I hope this day finds you well. I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Print separation feature is not included in CorelDRAW Home and Student edition.

Again if you are going to upgrade uninstall home version completely. Also delete the X8 folder to avoid installation issue. Start with clean slate.

Anybody downloaded the CorelDraw Graphics Suite 2018 trial version software? I downloaded it and after it expired, I attempted to remove the program but it keeps wanting to renew and I cannot remove it but I cannot use it.

I have never used adobe illustrator. Is it better or the same? Who has used it? What do you think compared to CorelDraw?
The learning curve is very steep. I never get used to AI. IMHO CorelDraw is way easy and user friendly. I don't use AI unless I have to when the file is generated from AI. Otherwise, I import it in CorelDRAW and make life easier.

Thanks, I will try this when I get home. I need to get it off my laptop. I have the disk for the X5 program but with Windows 10 it keeps crashing. I did not have the problem with the prior version of windows.

I am going to bite the bullet and purchase the full version of CorelDraw for my desktop.

I was hoping I could use the X5 program on my laptop and work with it when I was on the road and then send it to my desktop and print from there when I got home but X5 keeps crashing with Windows 10.
