We have more or less completed our review of CorelDRAW X7.
The Bad...
Let me stress this one point. DO NOT UPGRADE TOO OR PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT! at this time.
7.1 should be released in the near future which may change my opinion about this. I will post again after 7.1 is released.
Reasons for not purchasing....
Pantone color palettes and things like fountain fills are not working well at all. This means that spot color separations such as we do for screen printing can be a serious issue.
Further you are liable to have problems loading, editing and saving pantone or spot color based files. Such as those from the clip art libraries we work with.
X7 can render much of your clip libraries and design templates nearly useless. Also if you save these files from X7 it can really result in problems as you will have to restore colors and fountain fills manually after X7 has damaged them.
The Good...
WoW it is faster much much faster and has some new toys but the issues with spot color just makes X7 useless.
Most of with experience in CorelDRAW products are used to this every other release cycle.
If you are a new business you are better off buying X5 or X6 of which X6 is the best option at this time.
You cannot buy X6 from Corel but you can buy it on Amazon.com or from other vendors such as silkscreeningsupplies.com
That's my verdict... Unfortunately more of the same from Corel's Management.
As a side note it is possible this will change significantly with the 7.1 update. We will have to wait and see.
