We have more or less completed our review of CorelDRAW X7.

The Bad...

Let me stress this one point. DO NOT UPGRADE TOO OR PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT! at this time.

7.1 should be released in the near future which may change my opinion about this. I will post again after 7.1 is released.

Reasons for not purchasing....

Pantone color palettes and things like fountain fills are not working well at all. This means that spot color separations such as we do for screen printing can be a serious issue.

Further you are liable to have problems loading, editing and saving pantone or spot color based files. Such as those from the clip art libraries we work with.

X7 can render much of your clip libraries and design templates nearly useless. Also if you save these files from X7 it can really result in problems as you will have to restore colors and fountain fills manually after X7 has damaged them.

The Good...

WoW it is faster much much faster and has some new toys but the issues with spot color just makes X7 useless.

Most of with experience in CorelDRAW products are used to this every other release cycle.

If you are a new business you are better off buying X5 or X6 of which X6 is the best option at this time.

You cannot buy X6 from Corel but you can buy it on Amazon.com or from other vendors such as silkscreeningsupplies.com

That's my verdict... Unfortunately more of the same from Corel's Management.

As a side note it is possible this will change significantly with the 7.1 update. We will have to wait and see.

Thanks, Tom. Can you go into any more detail about the good parts? You mention that it is faster and there are new tools to play with...is there anything specific that you noticed a great speed increase with? I was considering upgrading to X7 on my laptop (on which most of my screen printing work is NOT done) and depending on what specifically was improved I may still want to do that.

I am disappointed that those color issues exist...one would think that would be caught during the beta test, but hey, it's a big program. Hopefully they will patch it and get that worked out pretty quickly...

I am mostly excited about the tabs. That's a long overdue feature.

Yeah one would think for sure... There is are some new fill tools and fountain fill options but they are all really unstable too. Then there is a font play ground which is cool.

But it is also just really unstable and shakey and crashy. I can only recamend to avoid it at this time. I hope that changes as the speed is impressive. But anything to do with color or color palettes is just to risky right now.

We will release our updates for it soon and they will work but it anything in DRAW is just up in the air right now.

I purchased your entire corel bundle.... looking for more clipart... more categories. Purchased some cheap clipart of ebay and that is exactly what is was.... cheap garbage.

Or can you direct us in the right direction to some quality clipart?

Tom,

Your a tough guy to get a hold off.

Chris
At this time exceptionally so as we are working extraordinarily hard to get our stuff working in X7. The number of work arounds that had to be figured out and sheer amount of new programming that has been done in the last 5 weeks is staggering. It is best to call and leave a message I returns calls usually with in one business day.

We also now screen just about all calls with voice mail because we get allot X7 support calls and many of those have nothing to do with our products or work.

Making that worse is OpenTshirts which we get calls with people looking for help but we cannot support for free on the open source. In fact I let another company handle that project now and we still get the calls.

But leave a message on the toll free I will call you back. I had one yesterday called several times I called back several times the voice mail is full. So sometimes it is just things like that turn communication into phone tag.

Hey I will send you a message hear.. I was trying to buy the x7 upgrade through you before I ordered direct through Corel. Unfortunately I purchased the upgrade on 4.18.
Thanks for the gesture I stopped selling CorelDRAW after X6 because things like the release history.

But I believe these colors problems will be resolved in X7.1 which is not far off based on how 6.1 was released.

Hi,

I bought Corel X7 last month to work with my newly purchased Graphtec CE5000-60 cutter, but Corel kept crashing at the startup of a new page. Error Message - Corel has stopped working, etc... I am new to all of this, but figured the crashing had something to do with the connection to Graphtec. I contacted Graphtec support and was told that their plugin (cutting master 2 and cutting master 3) was not compatible with Corel Draw X7. Fortunately, Amazon let me return X7. I purchased X6 and installed it the other day. So far, so good.

Thanks for your review of X7.
