When you have an object with tons of nodes that need to be cleaned up try this.
Click on the object with the node tool. On the property bar hit the select all nodes button. The reduce nodes menu and slider bar will pop up on the property bar. enter one "1" in the number box and hit enter.

For a good test type in a couple lines of artistic text, convert to curves and switch to the node tool. On the bottom status bar it will tell you how many nodes are selected. Should be quite a bit. try the test and see what the new number of nodes are and carefully examine the text. Should still retain its shape as before reducing the nodes.

Fewer nodes makes for a faster print and smaller file size.
