How is it that airbrush artists can pretty much get away with painting any design they wish on a tshirt. And I've seen a lot. Everything from famous faces to "known" copywrited cartoons. And then there are the famous infringers...like Alex Ross...possibly the best comic book artist I've seen...How does he paint copywrited characters, and sell his artwork for tens of thousands of dollars? I'm so confused.

When DC hires him, they allow him to use their characters in his artwork. I am sure he has an agreement with them to retain his rights as far as the actual paintings he creates. The bottom line is, he has DC's permission to do this, or he wouldn't be able to do it.
