!! HELP !! so i am new on this site and have been doing some reading. i am looking into my own line of apparel that is very specific to local pastime here. i actually have about 10 designs ready to put down on fabric and people (my friends) are wanting them bad... the only problem is that i have the sneaking suspicion that if my work gets out there unprotected it may be printed and sold out from under me...this brings me to my first dilemma. what to do for copyrighting??? i went to the website and after about an hour of reading and a couple drinks i feel like i should cosult a lawyer  can i copyright the "name" of my particular logos? and can i copyright all of them together or do i need to pay the $35 for each logo. can anyone out there please offer this determined partime newbie some advice??? thanks.

A logo needs to be trademarked if it is your brand name. With trademark it is more of a word type protection. Copyright is what you do with the designs. With your designs you can do a copyright collection on a disk and copyright them all at the same time as a collection. Hope this helps :)

well its not exactly a "company" logo as it is a collection of similar logos with a name that describes the product line. example... i have 30 different designs but this group of 10 designs are all similar in design with the same "name"... sorry about the"" but after reading copyright there are all the definitions and im not sure im making sense:p

Hi Jamie,
I'm kinda new to this also, but i totally get what you're saying. I have such a similar situation, it's like I have name of a clothing line have been working on but most of the designs are based on different designs using that name. After much research, I think the safest thing to do is make a "Base" logo with that name...Trademark it, then get all your different designs of that name and get the whole book copyrighted at the same time as a collection with a single $35 fee. To my understanding a trademark does not have to be your business name it just prevents people from being able to use that word on their stuff.
