converting.gif to .ai

I received a piece of artwork for a t-shirt in .gif format. When I open the file it is extremely large - 3400x1900px

The artwork is pretty simple, it's just text basically.

Any tips/tutorials on how to convert to .gif to .ai ?

If Im understanding correctly and you just need an AI file, you can save it as an ai file in illustrator.

If you mean converting it to a vector image, you will need to do 1 of 3 things...have the customer provide you with one, "live trace" it and hope it looks good or recreate it in Illustrator yourself.

Hope this helps and good luck.
Try Live Trace in Illustrator......You may have to play with the settings.....
you cannot take a .gif file and save as .ai....just won't work!...you have to vectorize it...convert to a vector...as stated...IF you have illustrator...you can try live trace..you may have to tweak it some..or you can use Vector Magic Precision Bitmap To Vector Conversion Online you can upload to images free...after that it is around $7.95 a month for unlimited conversions...they do a pretty good job..but still you may have to do some tweaks or else outsource the conversion
Yes sorry - I do need a vector format, something I can resize and change colors of easily.

I have Illustrator so I will try to live trace and see what happens.
Everything I try in Live Trace just turns the image into a white box --- same thing happened with the VectorMagic tool
send me your image and let me see what I can do
