So, I am creating a school pride shirt and having little to no graphic designing experience, I hired a freelancer. Before I decide to go forward with the design, I wanted to get some critical analysis of the design.

Here is the design

Does the girl look somewhat awkward? I've been getting mixed opinions on this.

Is a price point of $15 decent for a shirt like this?

What modifications should be done to make the design better?

Thanks!

The girl, I guess, is supposed to be sorta anime looking?
I don't want to say it, but to me, she looks kind of rodent-like in the face.
That and I have to admit (and maybe it's just me) but when I first looked at the design and the girl, I thought she had a beard, but it was the way they placed her hair on her far side.
So, is the printer going to charge you $15 ea to print one color prints ?!
Will this be an oversized print as shown in the artwork ?
How many are you getting printed ?
Or, is the $15 what you will sell them for ?
I will say, if you're hearing negative remarks from you target customers, then, I would think about tweaking the design before moving forward.

I am looking to sell them for $15 and I aiming for 300 orders. I plan for the final design to be smaller on the shirt. As for the negative remarks, it really is a mixed bunch. It gets some really good compliments but it also gets questionable glances and so forth.

Thanks for your input! I will contact my designer for further revisions.

no school pride in that design if you ask me. a girl reading a book=school pride? and what is 'STUY'?

not trying to be negative but it looks like more like a teenage suicide shirt. nothing uplifting except maybe the butterfly. wouldn't school pride maybe show like a cheerleader jumping in the air or a graduation cap? something.

i don't get it at all.

I thought the same exact thing at 1st and 2nd glance. Face needs to be reworked and hair as well. Definitely, people will pay $12-$20 for it if the the printing is good and just a basic shirt.

Not sure, but I'm guessing it's for Stuyvesant HS in NYC. The school is known for its academics, especially math and science, so maybe that's what the image is trying to project ... Pride in education.

At any rate, the face is a little unusually and the hair (beard) is an issue.

Not sure why she's blowing a clear bubble either ... I don't know of any clear bubble gum.

Haaa-haaaa!!!! I thought I was out of touch! Cheerleaders? Graduation caps?? Please. That stuff went out with raccoon coats and "Rah, rah sis-boom-bah"
Replaced with skulls, flourishes, swords, crowns, marijuana leaves and wings.

And school colors? Fuhgeddaboutit!

If you get it, it's not hep...uh, hip. Cool? Phat?

i presume if he's getting a qty of 300 the design would have to be approved by someone at the school. i don't think the skulls and some ghanja leaves as part of the design would pass the muster.

a school pride shirt doesn't have to be an ed hardy shirt.

I have found that red shirts dont sell well personally. As for the art, I have to agree with some of the other posts; Teenage suicide and loneliness is what I get from it. Ive been out of school for over 20 years, so maybe thats cool now or something.

Hey, I still say, "sweet, lovely and hype" which is a stretch for me and I have enough grey in my beard to to warrant "not getting it"...LOL!
And I agree with you whole heartedly. But I've printed for every high school in my area and I'm surprised what is allowed to "pass muster" and slip by. And I've seen (not done) all that...except the ganja.
"We're letting the kids decide...they know what's popular" has been the reasoning. Or maybe it's just plain detachment. I require an adult contact whenever I do a job for high schools. I ask questions about the graphics and I always question nicknames and especially names on "signature" shirts and cheerleader "butt prints".
I'm in line with the shirt critique. For me school pride has school colors, or the mascot or mascot name, slogan, crest etc. which still gives tons of latitude for what's "in".
And if I wanted a kid's opinion, I'd give it to them :D
