Confused: The best Laser transfer paper for darks

13454 Views 38 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  TMTUSA_Tech
Hello,

The more i read through this forum, the more i get confused. I would like everyone's opinion on which heat press transfer paper (laser) for dark t-shirts is the best (best quality, long lasting, etc)

These are the brands i have heard are good:

- Airwaves Fabric Opaque
- TransferWear Darks

I am from Europe. If Airwaves is the best, then where do i buy it?

Thanks,

Dave

Airwaves is very good if you are willing to hand trim and do two step process. I also discovered yesterday that the blue grid opaque can be printed with laser printer using medium weight media setting. Be aware though that it tends to shrink going through the fuser. So when using a vinyl cutter with optic registration the cutter will lose its accuracy.

You can purchase Airwaves Opaque from AirWaves. It is sold in one size which is 11X17. Not sure in EU.

Excellent! Could you give me a direct link to the papers i need. Their website is also really confusing hehe.
So, i need Airwaves Opaque 11x17.
My printer (work) is a Konica Minolta Bizhub C353.

Thanks a lot.

Dave
Also, when you say two step (i don't mind doing that) does Airwaves sell a package or do i have to buy seperate stuff?
On their website i can only find the 'one step' papers....

Minimum international order is 100USD.

How about IronAll vs. TransferWear ?
TransferWear is cheaper, but is IronAll better?

How compare with WOW7.1?
How compare with WOW7.1?
Wow 7.1 is a multi step self weeding opaque while Airwaves opaque is made of fabric that needs to be hand trim. Wow7.1 cost approx. $5.00 per pair after the initial purchase of approx. $6.00 a pair. The extra $1.00 ($32.00 total) accounts for the soft silicon sheet that comes with the kit. The Wow7.1 I tried has cracked and peeled after small number of wash and dry cycles.

Thank you for another great laser thread, Luis. :)

I am sure I will be linking to this one, too, as the question on dark laser papers comes up quite a bit lately.

I believe the max includes what is in the inbox *and* the outbox for a total of 5.

If you have 3 outgoing, then it does work that way. It's been a while, so I am trying to remember how it worked for me. At this point, I get 20,000. Lol... please never let me use that up! :)
this is the situation in my messages folder:
'You have 0 messages stored, of a total 5 allowed'

If nothing is coming through now, then its not my fault :) :)
We have had excellent results with the AirWaves 585 laser paper for darks

585 is vinyl and 595 is fabric. Two different breed.
Not sure waht you mean by vinyl. The 585 is a transfer paper for use on dark materials. Maybe you are calling the white film that you separate from the paper a vinyl? The 595 is an opaque backing that is applied to the garment and then a transfer is applied to that backing.

Hey Luis!!!

Well, My new OKI is AWESOME!!!!!
I LOVE IT!!!!!!...& hubby loves it too!!!!
(so far!lol!)

And , so far, I really like the Magicut software....I actually cut some ugly blue "practice" vinyl last night!
...now, I am on the path to "contour-cutting"!!!..I really think that I am going to be able to do this!!!!

,,,,here is my question(sorry for the ramble).....

Have you solved the "shrinkage" problem w/ the Blue grid paper?
And if so, what is the answer?

(make the image a tad smaller? before making the "contour-cut-lines" & sending to the cutter
???)

Laser fuser as we know is very hot. Passing a plastic like material will tend to shrink. Therefore the relation between the image and the registration marks will shift. I made some compensation by offsetting the cutline quiet a bit. I also made the line wide for the circluar border around the design.

Hi Dave! Kinda late reply here, but if you are from Europe, you might want to try the Forever Laser Dark.

Hi,
I have been purchasing my paper from QLT. I have tried paper from other sites but this seems to work best for me. I order the opaque for dark shirts. I am not sure if they deliver out of the US, but they have great paper. www.qlt.com. They are having a sale right now. I got 600 sheets for 300.00. You need a teflon sheet for the paper. I have been using this paper for over 2 years.:)
