Hello Everyone, I have been going "crazy" over windows vs mac desktop vs notebook, android vs iphone ect ect. But before I bore you all with my questions to stay with windows or go to mac (now that I have an iPad, mac pro and everyone but me has an iPhone) can you answer this question? what do you use to design a notebook or desktop? and if it is a desktop what kind and size screen are you using? Thanks

Hi,
I am a mac freak. I use my mac book pro to do alot of my designing on the fly. I can take it with me for client meetings. I also have an ipad but have not really tried that out for designing. (Havent had time yet. I run photoshop and illustrator on My mac book pro as well as the desk top. I also have a mac desktop with a 24 in screen. (LOVE IT!) . Hope that helps. People are either Mac freaks or swear by the PC. The thing I love about the Mac is, if I have an issue with it, I can fix it. Hit the EASY button!
Take Care,
Sue

I think it comes down to what you are most comfortable working with and what your budget will allow you to purchase.....Im a big fan of multi monitor setups. The more realty you have to work with the more efficient your workflow can get...

it's almost imperative to have a dual monitor setup when doing video and/or music production, since the software work area include timelines which can be stretched across the 2 monitors making editing that much easier. i had used that type of setup for years even after i got out of video work. the second monitor was used to put all the pallets and other open windows on leaving the main monitor (on the left) just for my illy artboard.

now (because of space issues) i just use a samsung 22 widescreen attached to a mac g5 ppc.
Have an Mac Book (Only for clients). iPad for other uses!! Pretty happy with mac book to show designs to other or for flying print.

I design on paper, tablet PC, and desktop PC or Mac. The type of desktop doesn't really matter, but I have a Gateway with a fairly cheapo 22" monitor, and the iMacs are 24" with their higher quality built in monitors. The tablet PC has a trash monitor too. LOL I'll be upgrading that as soon as Windows 8 comes out later with the very ultimate in tablets "for artists". Touchscreen tablets with stylus support, super thin form factor, full computer operating system in tablet form with detachable keyboard. That will make everything Wacom currently makes obsolete.

I'm one of the people who believes that the ipad is essentially a toy. I have a phone for what an ipad does, but actually my phone, Galaxy Note with stylus is a lot more useful than an ipad as far as being an asset for an artist is concerned.

PC vs Mac. That's easy. Macs look very cool, but the real power tools are for Windows all day long. Take a look at the Samsung Series 7 Slate PC. Tablet PCs like mine with stylus have been around for many years, but why doesn't Apple make such a device if it is the company for creatives?

Android vs iOS. Android is an extension of my computer. I capture ideas on the phone, annotate and mockup with stylus which can draw/write with color and touch sensitivity. Send via bluetooth to my pc or mac, then continue working on them. In the shop, sometimes I take a very careful picture with my phone, bluetooth to computer and print film for t-shirt from there! No kidding. I routinely copy files from computer to phone and use it like a flash drive to take home and continue work. iOS is a feature phone OS. It's "easy to use" because it doesn't do useful things. Android is the spiritual successor to Windows Mobile. iOS is for facebook and twitter. Any questions? LOL

This question is mostly about what people like using so it is more opinion based. However, there is a cost difference you should look into. I find that the lower end notebook screens don't offer enough color calibration for me and tend to not have the rich colors that a cheap LCD or a moderately priced monitor will have. Once you get in the higher priced notebooks this don't seem to be an issue. Again, it is more about cost.

Epensive notebook = moderate desktop
