So as of now I am printing all my images from my home printer (canon pixma ip1700) and then go to kinko's and make the transparencies there ( I have to double up on them so i make two each). I am wasting tons of time and money doing this but its the only solution I have for the time being.

I have seen multiple printer set-ups but all are extremely expensive (at least in comparison to my pay check). I was thinking about trying to piece together the kit that is available on Silkscreeningsupplies.com with the epson 1400 but it still comes out to be over a thousand dollars.

Anyone know of any way to get the software cheap or any other suggestions?

Thanks

Have you ever tried printing onto film with your pixma?

Unless you are printing halftones you don't really need the RIP software, the Epson 1400 printer is about $300 on it's own. The AccuRIP software in that package made up a bulk of the rest of that $1,000 tab.

i know, that's the main problem with the price. I have tried printing them on the pixma and the ink isn't opaque and it won't bond with the transparency, so the ink smudges right off. If i get the epson and try printing on the films they provide from SSS, will it be completely opaque? After I upgraded my exposure unit a while ago, I found opacity to be a huge necessity, so I guess thats my primary concern.

thanks for getting back to me!

Also, make sure you are printing on the correct side of the film. The film that I use at work has kind of a milky look to it and it can only be printed on one side. Before I got used to the film, I would have to wet my thumb and forefinger and pinch a corner, whichever side was sticky was the side I had to print on.

I don't think all films are the same so, I would just try to confirm if you can print on either side or if it is a specific side that you have to print on.

And like tdigital said in his post, check your printer settings. On my pixma at home (MP610) there is actually a "T-Shirt Film" option to choose when selecting the media I am printing on, maybe yours has one too?

I am using transparencies i i bought from office depot... could that be a problem? I have a few different settings on the printer as well... looks like theres "photo paper plus glossy" and "glossy photo paper" so i guess i'll give them both a try. Get back to me about the films i should be using... Is there any that will work that i can by at a store like office depot or should i just order online?

thanks for the help everyone!

You need to be using waterproof film. The R-Film from silkscreeningsupplies has been working wonders for me.. I don't know of any that you can get locally, save from some from your screenprinting supply place (who may have velum or transparencies). You can print on velum (if i'm not mistaken) but the exposure time is longer than with the transparency.
