not sure if this is the right place for this.

I’ve tried my hand at this transfer thing. I have a press and whenever I press on to a T-shirt I always get the outline of the paper in addition to the image. I have read up on that and it seems as I need to trim.
I was in a T-shirt store the other day and saw a shirt I wanted. They took a transfer from the cabinet and pressed it on right there. No trimming and the outside lines were not there.
What am I doing wrong?

Those were probably commercially printed plastisol transfers.....

I agree with Royce - It sounds like they're Plastisol or Litho stock transfers.

If it's a standard design, it's probably been mass-produced and sold to several retail t-shirt sellers.

No, these were scans printed on the transfer paper. The paper I got from Kinko's.

My wife says they always do that. I say that does not make sense.

I figure there is a better paper out there.

So you're saying you get your transfer paper from Kinkos? If so that could be your problem. Try JPSS paper (Jet Pro Soft Stretch). It's available from most of the vendors to the left of this screen.

This is what I use, I still trim it a bit though, especially if there would be a large area around the design.

Plastisol transfers are screenprinted. It's a completely different type of transfer than what you are trying to do with your inkjet desktop printer.

For light garments I would recommend the Jet-Pro SofStretch product.

All transfer paper gives a slight outline. There's no way around that.
