Hi there,

I got ideas I got t-shirt and I got paints. At the moment I just cut my own stencils out and use a brush for some details...but I need a cleaner look. I have experience in silk screen printing. Do you think I should invest in this. I have an eye on promoting it as a business thing but really have not clue apart from word of mouth. I have no site but for the moment use facebook and flickr.

I would really appreciate your feed back...and enjoy learning about the business side also.

I think you have talent and a good eye. If you can imagine your prints in separated colour layers, then screen printing is probably a good way for you to go!n Have a look at youtube tutorials at colour separation in photoshop/illustrator/gimp and see if you can follow, before you invest in any equipment or software (gimp is a free/open source graphics vector program)

As far as promotion, I would buy a URL (eg> www.mydesignsareamazing.com ), get a website up (use something like Adobe Muse, or Wordpress / Joomla) and see what happens. Costs are negligable, when compared to the price of printing 1 t-shirt and it will get you promoting your products to the world on an immediate basis!

Good luck!

Thanks very much 20vK for your kind words.
So really i need to look into promotion 1st before equipment. That sounds sensible. I have CS 5 full pack and a wacom tablet for designing. You think I should just go ahead a design then. What is holding me back is that what I design is not always what is in the final piece. I realise to get into the commercial scene I will need to get some designs out there. Your point well taken.

Instead of screen printing, you could always start out with a heat press and JPSS t-shirt transfers (best off sticking with white/light shirts but some people like the 3G Opaque for darks) or sending out for custom plastisol transfers, which are screen prints you can heat press onto a shirt.

Of course there's nothing wrong with learning to screen print yourself, which will probably give you the best results! But there are other options for start-ups to use until they learn more.

Sorry missed your post. Will have to do some research. Saw a quick video for heat presses and looks interesting.
Thanks again
