CIS Continuous ink system Great idea but.......

CIS is great for saving money on my epson workforce 1100. However I have encountered one problem I noticed the ink quality is not as good as the original epson ink.

But Does anyone know of a particular brand of ink that is just as good as the epson ink.

Where did you buy it? If you got some cheap generic thing off eBay then the ink is probably just food coloring and water. Image Specialists is one of the bigger names for aftermarket ink, and there are several resellers in the US. You may also need an ICC profile for your printer to get the best results.

Personally I think the WF1100 color output is bad anyway, but plenty of people here find that it is a very good printer.
wow thanks for your input! what is a printer that you recommend for jpss transfers.. (I need a wide format printer)
I have not yet bought my pigment inks for my 1400 because I want to sell my 1100 first to recoup some of the money I've lost on it. If you have the 1100 already, I would just go ahead and buy a system for it. Cobra Inks are probably the most popular ones here, other big names are InkJetCarts, InkJetFly, OctoInkjet, and MIS Associates.

Unfortunately, if you have a generic CIS you may as well throw it out. You will not be able to "clean it out" enough to change the ink used in it, you will have to buy a new system. This is probably better anyway, as a system from a good supplier will be less likely to break or leak.
so the epson 1400 makes a better picture in your opinion? Ya know, I was told that it doesnt matter the quality of the image what matters is how nicely it transfers on to the shirt.

Everybody on here was raving about the workforce 1100 and I dont know why. I also think the 1400 puts out a nicer quality image and prints etc. You would think that nicer prints would mean a better looking transfer and ultimately better looking on the T shirt itself after it has been applied!
I agree cobra ink system is one of a affordable solution. good ink does not fade that much .. i brought my 1400 from cobra with installed cis and right from the box u can start printing ..

As far as the print resolution/quality itself, the 1100 is more than acceptable. Since a t-shirt is hardly photo paper, even the smoothest fabric has a weave/texture, you really won't see too much of a "sharpness" difference, most comments I've seen recommend using plain paper mode (best quality) for transfers. My issue with the 1100 was color gamut. On the box, there is a photo of a bar graph with strong primary blue and bright cyan/turquoise. Even on photo paper with an ICC profile, I'm unable to get anywhere near a turquoise/sapphire blue, which a lot of my designs incorporate, and primary blue comes out more like navy blue. I'm hoping the 1400 will do a better job in this regard, since my old R220 with pigment inks was capable of printing the colors I wanted. I was never able to get a straight answer as to whether or not this might be my ink supplier, or if it's simply "the nature of the beast". A similar issue with a C88/C88+ six years ago turned out to be the printer, not the ink. I had been hoping in six years there would be better color profiling for the 4-color pigment systems, since HP's 8x00 series have a much brighter gamut.

I was satisfied with a photo print out of the Workforce. I thought the quality was rather good for an "office" pigment printer. But since my own logo requires sapphire blue, I really can't use it.
