Hey guys. So I'm debating on whether to choose the Epson Artisan 1430 Wide Format Inkjet Printer, or the Epson Workforce WF 7510 Wide Format Inkjet Printer for the film positives. It's so hard for me to choose, so I'm gonna' need some opinions.

The only downside to the Epson Artisan 1430, is that it isn't an all-in-one printer (meaning it doesn't have a scanner) like the Epson Workforce 7510 does.

Here are the specs for each printer.

Epson Artisan 1430:
Epson® Artisan® 1430 Wide-Format Photo Printer | Staples®

Epson Workforce 7510:
Epson® WorkForce® WF-7510 Wide Format All-in-One Printer | Staples®

Which should I do?

This is a no brainer. Buy the 1430 if your serious about printing lithos. Then buy your ink from Cobra ink systems and save a **** ton of money on ink.

Then go down to best buy and get an all in one for your regular printing for a hundred bucks.

Done.

1. why the hell do you want an all in one ... that is good for schizophrenic malcontents who like to drool on themselves in geometric patterns while trying to be 'efficient' ... you're producing graphics, not a copy of a bank statement. get the system that works.

2. go with the maxx black system from ryonet. Trust me. if you're producing positives to burn ... that is amazing and you aren't using color ink to make a black positive. Plus accurip is amazing and fool proof.

3. buy a seperate scanner. I mean seriously, this isn't even a competition ...

We use the blackmaxx system with accurip from Ryonet. Its an amazing system and have never had an issue with it.
Don't buy the blackmaxx kit though. Go to Cobra Inks and get it from them, or buy the printer and have them send you the black ink cartridges. Ryonet = $150 vs $35 for cartridges and $4 to refill them from now on.

I use this system and its been perfect.

for around 100.00 you can get a all in one , I have a 1430 and have refillable carts from inkjet carts . I use there ink for positives and switch it out with the std photo ink . My all in one is in my office and not used for any more than std printing , IMO the 1430 is a kick butt printer for photos and positives. something you will most likely not get from an all in one. as for the carts on the all in one you can get refillable for that one also . Mines a WF630 epson.
You may also want to check if that printer is supported by the RIP you have.

The Blackmax system comes with an Epson Artisan 1430 printer, right?

Is there a specific ink I should get?

The printer will come with std inks if you buy it from epson or other outlets, if you get it from a screen print supplier it may have a black ink system.

Look at all you options on what your buying from whom , if you want all black or not .
If you going all black there are many outlets for the ink , I went with inkjetcarts, there are others . Just make sure you do your home work first , don't end up with a crappy system.
Blackmax is a good sys, but its also pricey.

The 1430, 7510 have the same print resolution. The big advantage of the 1430 is it prints 1.5Pl for its smallest dot. It also uses 3 dot sizes in the variable dot technology where as the 7510 has a 2.0pl dot and only uses 2 sizes. The 1400/1430 has some of the best dots produced from any inkjet out there.

Blackmaxx is good ink but IMO way over priced when purchased in cartridges. There is a bulk size for refillables and CISS from blackmaxx but the ink from inkjetcarts.us produces the same results at a lower price.
