You should be able to set you canvas size in your RIP, some have the platen sizes already built in to your options.
Maybe tell us which RIP ver# your using and someone can tell you where the settings are.

I know I don't post much. I do have a general question.
I have a HM1 with white ink. I want to use the child's platen but I'm not sure how. Sounds stupid I know. But.....When the platen is placed on the machine and load is hit, the head moves to the same place as the full size platen. Will I have to set the spacing in the Rip, measuring from the outside of the skid to where the print will be? Did that make sense? or is there a setting in the rip I haven't found yet?
