Okay, so for a while I was contemplating posting this. At first I thought that it was a little too personal for the forum. Then I thought that I could help many in similar situations. In California the Child Support system is very corrupt. I am certain that there are people who agree. Anyway my situation goes like this... At the age of 19 I had a kid, paid child support a year later because everything was done outside of the system up until that point. Anyway later on I got full custody of my son and to make a long story short. His mother contacted child support services when he was born and forgot to tell them that we were doing things with out the help of the government, as far as support was concerned. Well because she was receiving assistance from the government they said I owe the state back pay all the way back to 1998. I didn't receive any notification at all as interest accrued. One day I get a call saying that Child Support ATTEMPTED to collect 24k out of my business account.. Keep in mind I have 2 other personal accounts that they never touched. LUCKILY I had nothing in the account at the time because if I did this would have devastated me and my business endeavor. Bottom line is California is hurting and they will do whatever it takes to find money.

RESOLUTION: Incorporate yourself and your business becomes an entity with a separate EIN# and Tax ID... This will protect you in a number of ways. On one hand your business will be protected from CHSP vultures, and if your business ends up in litigation your personal assets will not be touched legally.

That is CRAZY!! We are in CA also and still working on finalizing our corporate set-up. We decided to go with an LLC to protect our personal investments, home, etc..... In CA, it's stupid expensive and hard to set up a business (even an LLC), but we feel it will be worth the protection in the long run... Hang in there & good luck!!!

We have the same issue with Child Support here in Australia. Apparently my partner owes $18,000 for a kid that isnt his.
Luckily the business is in my name so it can't be touched.
Guys, make sure you protect yourselves legally, its vitally important.

It's extremely outrageous what's going on with child support these days, as well as other men vs. women legal issues. I'm surprised that all the men in the USA are not up in arms about this. Men are being horribly exploited, abused, and persecuted.

Dude look at it this way, because of the Patriot act anyone owning money to child support have to pay their amount in full before they could be issued a US passport. Now you could travel to find vendors and resources outside the US therefore increasing your business bottom line. Then sue your child mother for receiving that money when she wasn't entitled to it. Just a thought

New York State is not any better. They took me for 11,000.00 AND I PAID WEEKLY 85.00 for 10 yrs! until i got custody. Bottom line is. For all the dead beats they cant find, They make the ones they can pay even more!
