i have traced a fine electric circuit plan and when i want to change the vector color from black into any other color it fills up the full screen instead of just the path with the new color. I tried to expand and ungroup afterwards, but when i select the whole immage and color it, it fills up the whole screen in that color (maybe because it is very fine like a web). If i try it with the outline option i get two lines and it becomes very fat. That is all not what i want. I just want the vector result in another color. Is it possible to trace just the actual path, superfine? Pls help ! thanks

thank you, but still it has not changed my problem.. my image is like a web... after tracing, expanding and ungrouping, i mark everything and color it and my full screen is coverd in the color without any detail. When i make the out line option i have two lines instead of one line, which makes the image to rough. All i want is to replace the black color (which comes after tracing) with another color after tracing without changing the shape or highlighting of the shape. Any suggestions? Thanks shido

Did you manually trace or auto-trace? Sounding like you auto traced.

If you did auto trace and have expanded and ungrouped, it sounds like there may be one of two things going on.

1. Did you select the color of the non lines, the white (or whatever color) of the background. If not, after the image is expanded and ungrouped, select the paper color and then go to the menu SELECT/SAME/FILL COLOR. This should select everything that is not the line art. Delete the selected art and try changing the color now.

2. If #1 didnt work it's possible some points/nodes are not connected which allows the color to run out. If thats the case,
make sure the original art/scan is a high resolution, then bring into Illustrator and mess with the auto-trace options to find the optimal tracing calibrations for the image. This should get you pretty close. Then go through step #1 again.

Hope that helps... if not, there is always manual tracing :)
