I've seen people create categories manually looking at the links that are generated by spreadshirt when you navigate to a design section of your site and adding those links to the site navigation menu that you create.

For example, in this spreadshirt shop it has a listing of all designs that they've uploaded:
http://www.spreadshirt.com/shop.php?sid=1517&op=designs

So if you wanted to create a "Tronica Evolution" category, you would just create a link to this page:
http://www.spreadshirt.com/shop.php?op=articles&motive_id=348983

The same can be done if you wanted to sort by t-shirt style (women's, men's, stickers, etc).

also how do u do banners?
What type of banners?

Yes, generally if you have designed your own custom header and footer for yoru spreadshirt shop, then the html coding would go there (where the navigation part of your shop customization is).

To do banners, you would need to be able to just create a banner sized graphic in your graphics editor program and then upload it to the web somewhere so you can use it in your website template or emails.
