Carrier sheet for contour cutting?

This has been answered a few times already but I think I am starting to understand,

IF I print onto 11X17 transfer paper, lets say 3g jet opaque and sofstretch lights, and want to contour cut them, the issue I have (when testing on plain paper) is if the design goes the full length of the paper that the paper falls out of the machine when it gets right to the bottom, so I believe I need a carrier sheet that is larger than the transfer paper to stick it underneath and feed the lot through the vinyl cutter, is this correct? How long would a carrier sheet last and is there any particular brand I should be looking for? I have the laserpoint and didn't get a carrier sheet with it.

Once its been cut out, I should remove the carrier sheet from the underneath, I need to weed the design away from the background, if its in multiple pieces, I believe there is some kind of top carrier sheet I can stick on and peel away the backing? and this can go through the heat press too? same question, how many times could I reuse the carrier and will the same carrier for for both light and dark transfer papers?

thanks in advance

The Softstretch light you cannot contour cut, however the 3G Jet Opaque you can. You do not need a carrier for this paper, as it is a printable film with a paper backing.

Did you print crop marks around your design to line your laser up with?
Thanks for the reply Nick, the problem I have is when I print on 11"x17" 3g opaque paper and go to contour cut the image when the cutter gets down to the bottom fo the design the pinch rollers loose contact with the paper, one soltuion si to make the image much smaller than the paper but I have a printer than can print borderless on 11"x17" paper so I would rather be able to utilise the whole space.

Thats why i thought sticking the transfer paper onto some extra sort of backing sheet would be useful to ensure the pinch rollers always have contact even right to the edges of the paper.
The problem with doing what you want is that you need the reg. marks for the cutter to know where it is. If you print on the full length or width of the paper, you will not have any room for the reg. marks. You are going to have to make your picture smaller in order to include the reg. marks. This is a shortfall of countour cutting.

yep agreed, I know I still need the reg marks, so I can handle making some room at the top but if I need room at the bottom too then I am really wasting paper.

I think the x-acto and cutting board might be the best solution
