Can my Roland GX-24 cut larger than 8.5"x11"?

Hey,

I'm printing full color graphics on my Mutoh Falcon Outdoor 48" printer, on a roll of Thermoflex 15" material. I'm going through Illustrator to generate my image and also render the cut lines for Cutstudio.

Is it possible for Cutstudio to cut an image that is bigger than 8 1/2 x 11?

Lets say I want to print and cut an image of a guitar that is 11x20. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks for your help.

I did a heat press vinyl this morning of a skull w/wings and it was 14.5x14.5 - not a problem with the cut
It sounds to me like you need to change your workspace setting to a custom size, Then, likely in your cut window you need to set your vinyl width to 15". Those are the two places I set my size for my cutter (different brand)
Thanks for the help!

My problem is, while using the "print & cut" method, the registration marks can not be adjusted in either Illustrators plugin or Cutstudio.

From what I know, you must have your image inside of the registration marks which are only 8 1/2 x 11".

Can I use the GX-24 to "print & cut" anything bigger?

Thanks again for your help!

The registration marks are governed by the size of your printer...with a 8.5x11 that is the largest you can get the registration marks as the marks are set by the program to the size printer you are using...or so I think

:eek::eek: I makes a lot of sense !!! So in my Epson 2200, if I select 11x17 the registration marks would be separated according to that size !!!
Thank you Charles.. it saved me from going to check the manual !!:D:D:D
That makes total sense.

However, since I am creating graphics in Illustrator CS3, and then tracing the image and sending the cut lines to Cutstudio via the Illustrator plugin, I can't find a way to make Cutstudio "believe" that the image is bigger that 8 1/2 x 11".

Let's say the image is 15x15". I can send all of the cut lines to Cutstudio and it looks fine. But my cut lines are outside the registration marks.

If the image/cut lines are outside the registration marks, then when I cut the vinyl with Cutstudio, it will not cut all of the graphic.

Does that make sense?

Thanks again!

I didn't know you could print on thermoflex. The adhesive side is the exposed side.
why are you using registration marks to cut vinyl....if I understood that is what you meant. if you are cutting vinyl, you need to make sure your workspace is sized correctly...no registration marks needed...as I said earlier, I cut a 15x15 vinyl image. I did not use registration marks...just made sure my work space was of appropriate size
You need the registration marks IF you are contour cutting an image.
You print a flower and you want the cutter cut all around it.
Then the cutter needs the mark to know the exact location of the flower and contour cut it.
Comprende?
In CutStudio - File - Printing Setup - in the lower left corner of the menu box there is a place to set your registration marks for the page size you wish to cut. I use this to cut 11x17 opaque transfer paper ... I usually set the marks at 10"x15" just to be safe.
BGSSUB brings up an important point to remember...that is to contour cut, you must allow for the rollers on your paper. You cannot cut to the edge of the paper
