Hi,

I'd like to create a shop on Redbubble, Spreadshirt or Zazzle.

I'd like to print some of my humoristic drawings you can see here.

I use pens, a scanner, Photoshop and Corel Painter. Files are up to 7000x5000px.

I'm asking if these drawings would yield an acceptable print (because of the smooth transitions, the 'soft' background borders, the font size,...).
And, if not, what changes should I make?

If you're experienced, maybe the answer is obvious. Could you advise me please?

Thank you
Phil

Hi pdcdec,

I checked out your work, very nice. your style of drawings would make great imprints.
Please see attached sample to visually see how I would go about separating your designs
to preserve the soft background tones in the designs. These seps could be created many ways in
this case I find it easer to create them in Photoshop. pdcdec please don’t hesitate to pm
me for any assistance or advice I can help you with. good to see you here you came to the right place.

Sublimation would allow you to maintain the integrity of your artwork without per-screen charges etc. Being a digital printing process it literally dyes the shirt versus laying ink on top, this means you can't "feel" it at all and it will last longer than the shirt in most cases. There is also no need to hassle with separations. you create it digitally (or scan it) and it can be printed. 150dpi or better :) GL!

Sublimation would only allow to do on white or light colors. Being a grayscale it would still come out ok on light color. Or if you needed a colored shirt you can do a all over sublimation. These also have to be poly shirts.

That can be screened but the shading would have to be done in halftones. There isn't much in the example in post 2. And only on the gray screen. Depending on the quantities would be the determination of how printed. Small quantities DTG or sublimation. But at 50-60 screen print would be the way to go. Since its black and gray neither need underbased. If needed on very dark or black the black screen can simply switched to white and leave the gray as is.

Thank you Edwin for the time you spent creating the images to explain the notion of separation.
It is very clear.
Because I'm used to Photoshop and my files are always highly layered, it'll be easy to create separated files.

Because of this separation technique, I guess I won't be able to use it on sites like Zazzle, Redbubble or Spreadshirt.
So, if I want to use separation, I guess I have to find a printer near my location.

Again, thank you Edwin and have a nice day!
