I live in a sales tax free state, is it legal to advertise that I do not charge sales tax to anyone ordering online in the U.S.?

even those of us that live in a state w/tax we don't charge tax for shipments out state..

an interesting side note in California we are supposed to pay an amount equal to the tax on products we buy online. On the CA tax return there is a line to add in the total purchase....of course everyone complies:)

lol I just read an arcticle regarding that. They actually bolded "supposed" to as well. Thanks.

Of course you can, but everyone in your state already knows that. :)

And everyone not in your state knows it too since, as the previous posters mentioned, no one pays sales tax for online purchases outside their state.

So my thought is, don't be redundant. It may make you look out of touch.

What state is it BTW that does not charge sales tax?
Delaware doesn't have sales tax. I am not far from Delaware and really don't like that state...
Oregon is the one I'm mentioning. Majority of people that live in Vancouver, Washington drive across the bridge (literally a bridge), into Oregon to shop and play so they don't pay sales tax. They also work here too. Thus, Vancouver is still a very small city/town.

Five states have no sales tax -- Alaska, Montana, Delaware, New Hampshire and Oregon.

Yeah, I figured advertising that is pointless. :D

Off topic: Oregon and New Jersey are two states where it is illegal to pump your own gas except in Oregon you can pump your own gas (with supervision) for your motorcycle.
I've lived in NH and most recently Delaware. Lots of businesses advertise "no sales tax". I'm not sure if it does them any good because as Joe stated, everyone should already know that. If you are not a tax free state, I wouldn't advertise it because only those sales shipped out of state are tax free. Anything shipped within the state would be subject to tax.
So people in washington are better off ordering from oregon or any other sales tax free state correct? Perhaps I can advertise directly to washington state customers to order from us as we are sales tax free (even if they wanted to drive to us).
You live in a tax free state, so you would not collect tax on any transaction. Advertising "No Sales Tax" does remind people in neighboring states that they can save some money by hopping across the border. People usually know that but sometimes when they see it in an ad it's enough to sway them in your direction, especially if you are close to the border. With the cost of fuel, it may cost more to drive to you than what they would save.

If someone from Washington were to drive to Oregon, they would save sales tax, but they could also order from any other state than Washington and also save the sales tax...but pay shipping. The only exception to that rule is if the company is registered to do business in Washington. They would then have to pay state sales tax and shipping.
There are also states that charge no sales tax on clothing and groceries (like Pennsylvania).

What I don't get is, in NJ, they have lower gas taxes, yet they won't let you pump your own gas? (Not complaining, mind you.)
I forget that now and then when I go through NJ. They are pretty serious about that. I thought one of the pump jockeys was going to tackle me when I grabbed the pump once. It was like I had just committed an act of terrorism. I got a lecture and everything.
yeah in Jersey they freak out if you try to pump your own gas. But when I have had to fill up in that state on my motorcycle they let me do it myself. They have it set up so they can just put in the nozzle and start it pumping and move onto the next car/customer but you can't really do that with a motorcycle tank.

And yep, Pennsylvania has no sales tax on clothing which makes my life easier....
So if I order my blanks from one of those states, I don't pay sales tax?

Sales tax only gets charged at the consumer level.

If you are a registered business with a resellers permit, you qualify to make tax exempt purchases. You will then collect sales tax when you resell the goods (unless you are in a tax free state).

So you, as a reseller, shouldn't be paying sales tax on blanks regardless of what state you order them from.
I'm registered, but the site I order my blanks from doesn't have a place for me to enter my tax ID.
Call them up and ask to set up a wholesale account. You should be getting wholesale prices and not paying sales tax.
