So to begin, yes I know there are filters and ways to edit your text in photoshop/ illustrator to give it a vintage look but this here doesn't seem it was done that way. Those filters look too pre-meditated to me and not authentic. However, this shirts print looks like its been washed 300+ times.

Any ideas?

Looks like a basic "crackle" distress. You can probably find one on google images. Create a bitmap image of it and place it over your graphic in Illustrator. Make the distress the same color as your background and your graphic will appear "crackled."
