Hi everyone, I currently have a sony vaio laptop which is coming up to 4 years old. I want to buy a new one but I dont know what to buy. My main use for a pc is for design, ie. Corel Draw X4 and Photoshop. I need a laptop that supports well graphics program and generally fast with good memory. I know I should probably invest in a pc but at the moment that isnt an option I can entertain.
Can anyone give me any advice.
Thanks:confused:

It all depends on your budget. I have a laptop for all my designs and and business needs, but that is only because i need to be on the move so much and need to take my info. If you just do all your work at home/shop then i would get a PC. For what you would pay on a laptop you could buy a kick *** PC.
I always try to go to a computer show and see what is out and see if there are any deals on PC's or laptops and most times there are.

2 gigs of ram and a dual core processor are a must to run multiple programs with no hickups, a good video card too.

Do you need to take you laptop with you, or is it a space matters?
You want a laptop with at least 2Gb of RAM, and for graphic design you need a big screen, in the other hand, if you will take anywhere, a smaller screen is better, for that matters a smaller form factor is more convenient.
What is you budget? can you afford a high end or a cheaper one?
You might want it with a video card with its own vram memory, not one using part of the main memory.
You might have to compromise between size/wight and speed, if you are taking it on the go.
Hope this was not too confusing. :)

I just bought an HP dv2700 AMD Turion X2, with a NVIDIA graphic card with 4 Gigs ram. 2.00 GHz.

I actually have two of these. The first one was bought about a year ago for about $1200. I was in Best Buy a month ago and saw the same laptop for only $699 so I decided to buy another one. lol

It's a great machine for multitasking with heavy design programs. I run PS3 and CS3 all day long at the same time plus internet and other applications without any problem.

For $699 you can't beat it!

I used a Maxed out Apple MacBook Pro and connect it to a 30" Widescreen Apple Display. It all depends on your budget, I have about $4,500 invested just in my design equipment.

Macs have handled graphics the best in my experience. You can get a nice Macbook for just under 1K. It all depends on what you are looking for. If you cannot afford a Mac I suggest a custom build PC tower. you will be able to get more for your money over a PC Laptop. I have a custom build unit at home that was only around $600 with 4GB or RAM and a nice processor and motherboard.
