Hey there

Someone has contacted me asking if I could sell T-Shirts to him in bulk for his company. He wants to resell them so he makes a profit too. I have never done this before so I don't know how much I should charge per T-Shirt.

The printing techniques I use are vinyl and heat transfer (Jet Pro Soft Stretch). I usually sell my one-off T-Shirts at £8.99 (12.24 USD) - £9.99 (13.60 USD) + £1.99 (2.71 USD) postage within the UK.

Blank T-Shirts cost me around £2.00 (2.72 USD) each, and each transfer paper print around £1.00 (1.36 USD) I think.

I think I should firstly ask him how many T-Shirts he wants and then get back to him with a price.

As I said I've never done bulk selling before so I would really appreciate any advice.

Thanks alot!
Matt

You will need to know just how many shirts he wants.....but to me bulk would be 100 or more at least, and I am not sure you would want to do that many with vinyl and heat transfer paper ....doing 5 to 20 using that method might be OK, but doing a 100 plus not sure if that would be the way I would do it...

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I was thinking around 100, and yeah I think it will take longer with vinyl and heat transfer. I have a feeling they will all be heat transfer, which really doesn't take too long for me really. I know something like screenprinting is far quicker, but even if I were to make at least £2.00 per T-Shirt i'll be happy. I'm definitely interested in doing it.

I'm just wondering what the usual profit is for bulk orders. Let's say he does want 100 T-Shirts.. how much profit would you usually make?

Thanks!

I don't know that there is a "USUAL " number to use.....it would be a wholesale price, if your customer is wanting to make money as well ,then you will need to sell them at 20 % to 30 % under your normal price for him to mark up. But also keep in mind once you give them the discounted price they may want it all the time....but decide what profit you are happy with per shirt and charge accordingly .....

Keep in mind that HTV and Printer Transfers have narrow discount margins for Volume.
Your complete process must take place on every shirt. For me and HTV, the Discounts hit the wall at around 12 units. From there I have to switch to Screen printing to go lower on Price. The margins for Screening can be extended into the hundreds of units because a large percentage of the Labor (Art Setup and Screen Prep) happen just once for thousands of units completed.

Also, you seem to have some fairly low prices for one-offs to start with...

For wholesale we discount about 20% and that is it. It really isn't our business and we don't have that many who do that except for a few schools and clubs.
